Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. We are not legally comfortable conversing with people whom are not adults. We will make exceptions with written parental permission.
Applicants must be a resident of Ottawa or surrounding Ottawa-areas. Your mailing address must be included in the body of the email.
The email submission subject should read,

Submissions are to be in 12 pt. Arial font. Acceptable file types are Microsoft Word (.docx) and Open document Format (.odt). Email delivery only. Submission must be an attachment.
Do not forward links to your writing. If the submitted piece is not an attachment we will not search for it.
Do not submit nor use Email Notification Services: We will not sign into any service to view your writing. If we receive an email requiring us to verify something or sign into something, consider the submission rejected. Please keep this in mind.
Theme
The underlying theme of these poems must be love and/or loss in the context of
1. the 2020 Fires of Australia
2. the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic and/or lock-down
3. Hurricane Laura of 2020
4. we originally included the events that lead up to the Black Lives Matter movement but must place a caveat: the theme of this collection of poetry is that of love and/or loss in the catastrophes of 2020 and are not to include political agenda, leanings and/or platforms.
Songwriters (lyrics) are more than welcome. (And as will be detailed below, you maintain ownership and copyrights).

Permission & Ownership
The writer needs to submit their own work, no pen names and no third party submissions.
You must own your poem's copyright.
If you have sold your work elsewhere you may not own it even though your name is on it. If you want to include that work in a book someday you may have to get written permission. Submission to this poetry collection presumes you have dealt with these issues already.
We will take this submission to this collection as a statement and permission that you
a) you have ownership of this submitted work and take responsibility and legal liability should you not.
b) you give permission to Broken Keys Publishing to reproduce it in print and subsequent print runs and publications, and ebook publications
c) no payment or monetary compensation will be made upon acceptance of this submitted poem(s) and that you will be credited as this poem's author in this anthology's credit page, the poem itself and in the biography section.
d) no payment or monetary compensation will be made upon copies of this book's publication, printing or direct sales from Broken Keys Publishing.
e) you give permission that your story and your name can be mentioned on TV, radio or media interviews for promotional purposes, including but not limited to readings via audio recordings.
The Poet confirms that the poems is (are) original work(s) by the Poet. The Poet agrees
to indemnify and hold harmless Broken Keys Publishing from any losses that Broken Keys Publishing may incur as a result of any copyright infringement claims or other intellectual property claims made by third parties in relation to Broken Keys Publishing of the poem(s).
Broken Keys Publishing does nor will not own these poems once printed. You still maintain ownership, with the exception of Broken Keys Publishing’s permission to print and reprint this collection.
The Poet will retain all of its rights related to the poem(s) and Broken Keys Publishing's rights to publish the poem(s) are limited to publication of the poem(s) in this print edition, reprints of this edition and ebooks versions.
Compensation
There is no fee to submit a poem
There will be no fee and no payment should your poem be selected. You will be credited as your poem's author, in both this collection's credit page and a brief bio.
The number of submissions (and ultimately page count) will dictate whether this collection will move forward to print edition or only ebook. Assuming a minimum critical mass is reached to go to print, you will be given the opportunity of purchasing copies for your own purposes and/or sales, at printing cost plus a nominal administration fee.
As we get closer to final draft we will be better able to solidify these numbers. You will be free to sell these copies at your will with these profits benefiting you directly.
Notices & Announcements
Rejected submissions will not be notified.
A critical path (submission deadline, selection deadline, final proof, quantity order and printing date) will be posted. Those selected will be emailed and notification will be posted publicly.
Submissions will be open from October 1st, 2020 to January 9st, 2021.
Finalists will be announced February 28th, 2021.
Poetry can be a difficult sell at times. Depending on the number of submissions (and final selections) and the ongoing situations with the Covid-19 pandemic and potential lockdowns, these dates could be extended.
